IWC Da Vinci Automatic 36 Red Gold (IW458309)

The IWC Da Vinci Automatic 36 ref. IW458309 is a 36mm dress watch in 5N red gold, part of the round-case generation with which IWC relaunched the Da Vinci line in 2017 after decades tied to its signature tonneau case. It runs the automatic Caliber 35111. Cazador has no verified price observations yet for this reference. Its stand-out detail: it marked the first time in the Da Vinci line's history that IWC dropped the original tonneau case in favor of a fully round profile.

History

The Da Vinci line was born in 1969, with one of the first tonneau cases (barrel-shaped, with curved sides) IWC brought to production, a design the Schaffhausen house kept as the collection's identity marker for over four decades, including the 2000s and 2010s chronograph generation that carried the same silhouette.

In 2017 IWC took the line in a radically new direction with a fully redesigned generation: for the first time in the Da Vinci's history, the case dropped the tonneau profile in favor of a classic round shape, introduced in two diameters — 36mm and 40mm — and across several executions, including this dated Da Vinci Automatic 36 and the moon-phase-equipped Da Vinci Automatic Moon Phase 36, both aimed primarily at the brand's female audience.

Reference IW458309, in 5N red gold with a silver dial, Arabic numerals and rose-gold-toned hands, runs Caliber 35111, a 25-jewel automatic with 42 hours of power reserve at 28,800 vibrations per hour, cased under a convex sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides. The strap, in dark brown alligator leather, is made by Italian leather house Santoni, a regular IWC collaborator on its higher-end straps.

This is the eleventh IWC reference Cazador adds, and the first from the Da Vinci family in its round-case generation, extending the catalog alongside the Pilot's Watch, Portugieser, Portofino, Ingenieur and Aquatimer lines already present. As of this writing, IWC lists this execution under its past collections, without confirming whether it remains in active production.
