History

Louis Cartier drew the Tank in 1917, inspired — according to house tradition — by the top-down view of Renault tanks on the Western Front: vertical brancards that integrate the lugs into the case itself, a language still intact a century later.

In 1977, Cartier launched Les Must de Cartier, a more accessible line in gold-plated silver (vermeil) that popularized the Tank among a much wider audience and became an eighties icon.

In 2021, the maison revived the name with the modern Tank Must collection: steel cases in several sizes, high-autonomy quartz or SolarBeat versions, and the full classic vocabulary — Roman numerals, railway minute track, blued sword hands, and a cabochon on the crown, here in synthetic spinel.

The WSTA0041, the large quartz model, is the purest entry point to the contemporary Tank, and in Cazador's catalog it complements the Tank Française by covering the leather-strap branch of Cartier's rectangular dynasty.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a Cartier Tank Must WSTA0041 cost?

Cazador has no verified price observations for this reference (0 PricePoints recorded as of today). We do not publish estimates without our own sourced market data.

What sets the Tank Must apart from the Tank Française?

The Tank Must wears a leather strap and revives the spirit of 1977's Les Must; the Française has an integrated steel link bracelet. They share the original Tank's rectangular language.

Why does it use a quartz movement?

The Must collection opts for high-autonomy quartz to keep the slim profile (6.6 mm) and an accessible entry price to the maison; SolarBeat light-powered versions exist in other references.

Where does the "Tank" name come from?

From the Renault tanks of World War I: house legend says its side brancards evoke the tank's tracks seen from above.

Is it a men's or women's watch?

The Tank has always been unisex; the large model (33.7 × 25.5 mm) is the historic classic men's size, but the collection is positioned genderless.

Is it water-ready?

Splashes only: 30 meters (3 bar). It is a dress watch; swimming and immersion should be avoided.
