Cartier · Family: Pasha de Cartier
The Cartier Pasha de Cartier Chronograph WSPA0018 is the 41mm steel chronograph version of the line Cartier relaunched in 2020, with its signature screwed crown protector set with synthetic spinels. It runs the automatic 1904-CH MC caliber. Against the Santos, Tank Française, and Ballon Bleu already in the catalog, the Pasha is Cartier's only round-cased line fitted with a crown protector. Cartier was founded in 1847 in Paris. The Pasha de Cartier was originally introduced in 1985, inspired by a 1932 design. Per the origin story Cartier itself circulates — a brand anecdote we have not been able to independently verify beyond the house's own sources — the Pasha of Marrakech reportedly commissioned Cartier in the 1930s for a water-resistant watch he could wear while swimming, giving the watch its name and its screwed crown protector sealing the crown against moisture.
The 1985 design is largely attributed to Gérald Genta, who gave the Pasha its large-for-the-era round case, its square chapter ring over the dial, and its chain-linked crown protector. It was conceived as a men's watch, though its popularity among women eventually cemented it as one of Cartier's most recognizable unisex pieces.
In April 2020, Cartier fully relaunched the Pasha de Cartier collection, with 41mm and 35mm cases, the three-hand automatic calibre 1904 MC, and, at the top of the range, the chronograph version with the calibre 1904-CH MC that reference WSPA0018 carries. The QuickSwitch system lets the wearer swap the steel bracelet for a leather strap without tools, and the SmartLink system adjusts the bracelet's length without a watchmaker.
This reference sets itself apart from the other four Cartier references already in Cazador's catalog — two Santos, one Tank Française, and one Ballon Bleu — as the only Cartier line with a round case fitted with a crown protector, a visual signature it shares with no other collection from the maison.
