The Royal Oak was born in 1972, designed by Gérald Genta, as the first luxury sports watch in steel, with a screwed octagonal bezel and integrated bracelet that broke with the dress-watch codes of the era. The 41mm execution with an automatic date caliber — the best seller in the entire collection — went through several reference generations: the 15400ST (2012-2019), itself the successor to the 15300ST (2005-2012).
In 2019, Audemars Piguet refreshed that entry execution with reference 15500ST, which introduced the new in-house Caliber 4302 — replacing the previous generation's Caliber 3120 — along with revised dial details: wider indexes, a minute track printed on the outer area of the dial, and a date window shifted slightly toward the edge, away from center.
Reference 15500ST.OO.1220ST.01, in blue, is one of the color variants from that 2019 generation, and it keeps the integrated case-and-bracelet architecture Genta designed more than five decades ago, along with the "Grande Tapisserie" pattern that has defined the Royal Oak dial since launch.
