The Black Bay Chrono, introduced in 2017, was the first chronograph in the Black Bay family and also Tudor's first watch to run an in-house chronograph movement, the MT5813, built on an architecture shared with Breitling — the same technical base behind that sister brand's B01 caliber within the same corporate group.
In 2019, Tudor expanded the family with the Steel & Gold execution, identified by reference M79363N-0001: on the same 41mm steel case as the rest of the line, this version adds a fixed bezel, a screw-down crown engraved with the Tudor rose, and both chronograph pushers cased in 18k yellow gold — an uncommon two-tone treatment within a family of sport chronographs.
The black dial keeps the Black Bay Chrono's classic layout, with gold-toned accents and markers that match the case's gold components, and the signature 'Snowflake' hands — with a snowflake-shaped hour hand — that Tudor revived from its 1970s military watches as an identity marker across the whole Black Bay collection.
The Calibre MT5813 is an automatic column-wheel, vertical-clutch chronograph, COSC-certified and delivering roughly 70 hours of power reserve — notably more than many automatic chronographs built on a modified ébauche base. The case retains 200 meters of water resistance, a high figure for a chronograph of this type and consistent with the Black Bay line's dive-tool heritage.
