The Calatrava is Patek Philippe's classic dress-watch line, a design language the manufacture has kept with minimal variation since the 1930s: a round case, a clean dial, dauphine hands and restrained proportions. Within that family, the sub-line featuring a Clous de Paris hobnail bezel — a truncated-pyramid motif used in fine watchmaking for a century and a half — has had different references over the decades, including the 3919 from 1985 and the 5119 from 2006.
In 2021, Patek Philippe introduced reference 6119 in two simultaneous executions — 6119R-001 in rose gold and 6119G-001 in white gold — replacing the 5119 as the current version of this design. The most significant change wasn't aesthetic but mechanical: the 6119 debuted the manually wound Caliber 30-255 PS, succeeding the Caliber 215 PS used in the previous generation, with a minimum 65-hour power reserve versus roughly 44 hours on the prior caliber, thanks to a twin-barrel architecture.
